Balanced Audio Technology

The goal of the VK55 balanced, tube amplifier, when it first came out, was to offer Balanced Audio Technology quality and sonic performance at a more affordable price and in a much more compact and livable size than the flagship VK75 and VK75SE models. Now, with the introduction of the VK55SE at $5995, Balanced Audio Technology is making available the maximum performance of their Special Edition technology in that same, compact chassis. Improved sonics are achieved by use of the 6H30 SuperTube in the amplifier's first gain stage, replacement of the resistive current source with a vacuum tube current source (as used in the flagship REX preamplifier), a five-fold increase in power supply energy storage, and replacement of polypropylene capacitors with the same paper-in-oil capacitors used in the other flagship products. These upgrades yield more transparency and extension, better portrayal of instrumental timbres and textures, better inner detail, significantly-improved power and dynamics, and new levels of coherency and naturalness. Of course, following their usual procedures, any owner of a VK55 can have that unit upgraded to a VK55SE. Finally, if the 55 watt/channel power output of the VK55SE is not enough for you, the amplifier is also available as a mono-block version with all of the same sonic characteristics and 110 watts/channel. So, even if 55 watts is all you need now, you can be comfortable knowing that this amp can be modified and expanded to a higher output level should you need more power in the future.
