McCormack Audio

McCormack Audio has introduced an entirely-new product line consisting of the LD-1 preamplifier ($2495 for the line stage, $2995 with phono), the DNA-250 250 watt/channel stereo power amplifier at $3995, the DNA-750 750 watt/channel monoblock power amplifiers at $9500 per pair, and the DP-2 CD player at $3495.

The LD-2 preamplifier offers a considerable refinement of the circuit approach of the RLD-1, while retaining that unit's features and facilities. The heart of the upgrade is the replacement of the Crystal Semiconductor volume control used in the RLD-1 with a new, high-performance volume control from Burr-Brown. This volume control is normally found only in much more expensive preamplifiers, and offers smooth and precise level adjustment with virtually perfect channel tracking. The LD-1's power supplies have been redesigned to accommodate the new volume control and have been significantly upgraded in the process. Finally, upgraded connectors add the finishing touch to the improved LD-2. For the convenience of those who also have a home theater system, the LD-1 has a bypass mode which makes integration of the LD-1 into a home theater quick and simple. Listening to the LD-1 reveals improved dimensionality and focus of images, subtle dynamic variations that are more easily discerned, and a more liquid, almost tube-like sound quality that draws you into a world of musical beauty.

While retaining the defining Distributed Node Architecture that contributes to the lightning fast dynamics for which McCormack amplifiers are known, the DNA-250 and DNA-750 amplifiers integrate circuit elements from the company's 30 year history with solid-state designs. The resulting power amplifiers have completely re-engineered circuits and typify McCormack's value-oriented approach, delivering near state-of-the-art performance at a fraction of the cost of competing products. Bass is deep, tight, and articulate while high frequencies are extended yet smooth. Images are cast in bold relief, and there is seamless response across the entire musical spectrum. Finally, both pace and timing are recreated accurately.

The DP-2 compact disc player is designed to extract the maximum information from“ Redbook” CDs while maintaining the musicality for which McCormack products are known. The DP-2 features 24 bit/192 kHz sampling rate DACs coupled to an audiophile-grade analog audio output stage. Discrete regulated power supplies provide a rock-solid DC supply for the digital to analog converter circuit.
