Vandersteen Audio has recently announced that a wood version of their Model VLR Bookshelf loudspeaker is now available. The Wood VLR employs the same time and phase accurate woofer/tweeter coaxial driver as the fabric-covered VLR but has a more sophisticated crossover for improved sound. The enclosure is made of 1-inch constrained layer-damped high density MDF clad with wood veneer. The diffraction-free grill is removable and comes in the standard fabric colors which include black, beige, and charcoal gray. All of Vandersteen's standard wood veneers are available for the price of $1,195 per pair. The VLR has always been an excellent and honest reproducer of music and, with improved sound and more attractive cosmetics, will be a perfect choice for use in many more stereo and home theater systems.
