In our last issue, we talked about the new, high-performance headphone cables released by Kimber Kable and how important they are to optimal headphone performance:
If you really enjoy listening to your music through headphones, you may have made a significant investment in a pair of high-end headphones to give you the best possible performance for your private listening sessions. The problem is that many headphones come with very ordinary cables that simply don't do justice to the capabilities of the headphones themselves. Fortunately, many modern models have plug-in cables that can be changed to ones which are audiophile-grade. Quality cables make as much difference to the performance of your headphones as high-performance cables do for your loudspeakers.
Please see that issue for a full description of how these cables are made. At the time of that writing, the Axios headphone cables were only available in copper. The promised copper/silver hybrid and all-silver versions are now available.
The all-silver version brings out your headphone's ultimate in spaciousness and clarity, just as you'd expect from a Kimber Kable silver-based design. Kimber Kable silver designs are never harsh or bright because of the manufacturing techniques and ultra-high purity of the silver they use. They just allow the music's natural space and detail to flow through the cable to your headphones and ears. The copper/silver hybrid (which is a combination of silver and copper wires braided together) stands, as you might imagine, between the all-copper and all-silver versions. It brings out much of the clarity and air of the all-silver design but at a significantly lower price.
All headphones are different and have their own sonic balances. Of the three models of Axios cables available, one may mate best with your particular headphone's sonics. For the committed buyer, it's possible for us to arrange a comparative audition of the different Axios cable to see which one mates best with your headphones and your own sonic preferences.
