Vol. 9, No. 1 Spring/Summer, 2006

Runco Crystal 32There's big news from Runco in three areas: (1) price reductions and enhancements to the Crystal Series LCD flat panel displays, (2) three new, less expensive DLP projectors, and (3) price drops on all of their plasmas. This is very good news for anyone who's wanted the superb video of a Runco product but found the prices intimidating. The new prices for the LCD displays, which include all of the advanced video processing capabilities which make Runco displays so superior, are the 40 inch CR-40HD at $4,495, the 32 inch CR-32HD at $2,995, and the 26 inch CR-26HD at $1,795. This represents a price reduction of $2,500 on the 40-inch model, $1,000 on the 32-inch model, and $700 on the 26-inch model! Furthermore, the 26-inch and 32-inch models, which had NTSC tuners built in, now have had these tuners replaced with ATSC (Digital TV) versions. This means that they do not need a set top box to receive digital broadcasts. Also, remember that these high-definition HDTV-ready displays incorporate Runco's exclusive Vivix digital video processing, which produces outstanding picture quality from both standard and high-definition sources. In addition, all models are engineered with ISF (Imaging Science Foundation) calibration standards for the purest video performance. Their advanced TFT active matrix LCD displays offer an honest 1000:1 contrast ratio with 1366 x 768 resolution and include Runco's discrete aspect ratio control with VirtualWide mode.

Runco Cl420 DLP projectorIn the second area, Runco has released three new, lower cost DLP projectors. These are the CL-420 at $4,995, the CL-610 at $7,995, and the CL-810 at $10,995. There is also a no-holds-barred model, the Cl-810 Ultra ranging from $17,995 to $33,995, depending on various advanced options and lens configurations. The CL-420, CL-610, and CL-810 bring Runco's amazing performance down to prices that were not possible only a short time ago. For example, they offer 1280 x 720 native resolution DLP light engines featuring Runco's powerful SuperOnyx technology for bright, pristine, high definition images. Black levels, brightness and contrast exceed anything previously available in this projector class. The CL-610 and higher models incorporate an illumination system featuring Runco's exclusive Selectable Lamp Intensity Control (SLIC), which provides two selectable lamp intensity levels to allow maximum flexibility for screen size, ambient light conditions, brightness and contrast balance and preservation of usable lamp life. These models also have newly refined lamp-cooling systems, which increase efficiency and reduce noise levels. There are far too many advanced performance features on these projectors to cover here, but the interested reader can find them all listed on the Runco website. One feature is very exciting and worth mentioning. A new Runco development called CineWide can be added as an option to any of the CL610 or Cl810 models. (The Cl-810 Ultra already has CineWide built in.) This feature allows the picture of any movie format to be expanded to fill the screen so there are no black bars at the edges. Unlike other systems that attempt to do this, CineWide neither distorts the picture nor cuts off parts of the picture at the edges.

As for the third area mentioned above, Runco has dropped prices on their 42-inch, 43-inch, and 50-inch plasmas so that they now have offerings starting at $3,995 for a 42-inch model. The pictures on the Runco plasmas are so superior to what you see with the mass market models that we hope you'll stop into the store and have a look at what you can get for prices that just weren't achievable one year ago.
