Sonus faber has introduced an entirely new entry-level line of loudspeakers called Venere. It consists of two monitors, the 1.5 at $1198 per pair, and the 2.0 at $1698 per pair, two floor-standing models, the 2.5 at $2498 per pair and the 3.0 at $3498 per pair, the Venere Center center channel at $798, and an on-wall model, the Venere WALL at $1398 per pair. These prices are for gloss black or white. Real walnut veneer versions are available at slightly higher prices.
The construction of the acoustic chamber is of great importance to the tonal balance of a loudspeaker. Sonus faber has always been a leader in the development of cabinet shapes and proportions that guarantee exceptional control of internal resonances and driver stability and create an ideal acoustic environment. The cabinet shape is inspired by the shape of a Lyre. Applied to the form of a loudspeaker, it ensures the absence of parallel internal surfaces, thus lowering internal resonances and controlling air movement inside the cabinet. This creates sound that is dynamic, clean, rich in musical detail, and, at the same time, highly natural in tone. This sophisticated enclosure features both sculpted sides to avoid diffraction of sound and a tilted baffle board to provide time alignment for the drive units. By using a front reflex port, the Venere 2.0 avoids the unpleasant rear wall interference often found in rear ported designs.
The world's best driver manufacturers craft all Venere drive units to Sonus faber's specific requirements, and additional optimization is carried out during the manufacturing phase. Extreme care is taken in the design of the crossover network so that the final design meets the highest standards. While the Venere series was designed using specialized computer software, in the final phase of development, everything is perfected and reviewed by ear.
The monitors can be placed on a shelf or mounted on Venere's beautifully-styled stands ($398 per pair). The enclosures of the floor-standing models are tall and slender, incorporating all of the same styling and design features found in all Venere models. Tempered glass panels on the tops of all models and as the bases of the floor-standing models give the designs a sleek and contemporary feel. Adjustable aluminum feet are fitted to the optional bases of the monitors and to the bases of the floor-standing models, allowing for leveling, adjustment of rake angle, and coupling to the floor.
The sound of all Venere models is remarkably open, spacious, rich, and involving. The quality of the sound produced has surprised everyone for whom we've given demos, especially considering the modest prices. Of course, the two floor-standing models have the extended bass power and depth you'd expect from larger loudspeakers, but even the monitors have very respectable bass performance. These loudspeakers bring the best of Sonus faber sound, at an unexpectedly high level, to prices most listeners can afford. |
