Totem Acoustic

In our last issue, we described the KIN Sub subwoofer and its remarkable bass capabilities for such a small package. Now Totem Acoustic has released the KIN Mini Sub, an even smaller subwoofer with almost the bass capability of its bigger brother. The Mini is only 7.8 x 9.5 x 10 inches with a decoratively-slanted front baffle and uses a 6-inch carbon fiber woofer powered by a 110 watt amplifier.

The KIN Mini Sub goes almost as low in the bass as the KIN Sub, 32 Hz as compared to 29 Hz. This new product provides a musically pleasing foundation wherever bass support is desired. Articulate and precise across a full range of bass frequencies, it is clear and coherent in all applications such as 2-channel stereo and home theater. As with the larger model, the dynamic capabilities of such a small subwoofer are truly remarkable. The sealed cabinet (no bass port) allows for flexible placement since there is less sensitivity to reflections from room boundaries than a ported system. Its bass extension is very respectable for any subwoofer and nothing short of incredible for one this size. It has full phase adjustment from 0 to 180 degrees to assist in proper phasing with the main loudspeakers. Crossover frequency adjustment and a volume control give the unit excellent connection flexibility.

The Mini Sub blends well with any small monitor such as the KIN Mini bookshelf loudspeakers. While it won't play quite as loud as the larger KIN Sub, it is an excellent choice for small to medium sized rooms. The KIN Mini and Mini Sub combination gives a very satisfying and full range sound with plenty of soundstage and an organically-coherent presentation. We can't think of any other mini system anywhere close to its performance.
